Grown Up Fairy Tales

I love fairy tales so the fact that NBC and ABC both have shows on right now are pretty cool.
Honestly though I like ABC's Once Upon a Time a bit more. Maybe because it's not as dark as Grimm, or... who knows. Maybe it's the writing. Anyway I like how fairy tales are becoming main stream and not just in the way of Disney.

Once Upon a Time is clever in the way that while they take story book characters and put them in our world they don't make it to easy to figure out who's who. I mean this in the way that in the fairy tale world Cinderella is of course Cindrella. In our world, her name is Ashley.
They still connect it, ASHley, CINDERella, but it's not obvious.  Another example is the Evil Queen is Regina in the real world and in Latin Regina meAns queen. I love subtle things like that. Where you don't make the connection unless you really think about it.

It's a good show and I'm glad they ordered a full season of it.

There's also Grimm this season, which I'm still not sure if I like. And two Snow White movies coming out. I wish they would come out with something other than Snow White though. It just seems overdone

Is it really Ever Over?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 came out yesterday so I'm going to post a bunch of funny/cool or amusing HP stuff I've found online. Mainly on Pintrest.com. The best website I've found in a while to just waste time on or find cool crafts and suchings. HP fans are so creative.

Favorite scene EVER

I got my first Harry Potter book as a Hannukah present and didn't read it right away. I then got over that and read it and have been hooked ever since. I then refused to watch the movies because I thought they would ruin the books. Things changed but I learned how to take the movie as a movie and the books as awesomeness. I have been to two midnight releases and gotten the books on the first day of release from Prizoner of Azkaban on. I love how the series has gotten kids and adults to start reading again and bring sci-fi and fantasy back to somewhat mainstream. Harry Potter is just good writing, and a good story. And I'm sad that's over. But when something is this beloved is it really ever over?

So many books, so little time

So tonight I went to a book store. Never a good idea. Actually it's always a good idea. Just not for my wallet. I went for a specific book but decided that book was just a little overwhelming. So while waiting for my mom I started browsing. This is where the trouble starts.
I love information. I collect books even if I don't read them for years I love having them. So when I see something about a topic that intrests me I want to learn as much as I can about it. Such as the Romanovs, the British monarchy from Victorian times and before, and interesting people. So in the biography section(which is right next to the world history section) when I see a book on Charles Dickens and one about Cleopatra and one about a girl who had little relationship with her father then at 81 he hands her a stack of letters he wrote to his parents while he was fighting in WWII my brain says want! My wallet says um...eh what the hell.
Did I get those? Nope. The only one I seriously contemplated was the WWII letter one but decided that it wouldn't be the best idea. So I picked up Ronald Dahl's bio (he wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I'm curious to see what was going on in that brain of his), a biography of a prision librarian (a profession I contemplated/am contemplating....the librarian part, not the prison part....although.....) and a book explaining what aspects of Harry Potter coinside with real British history. Comparing Hogwarts to British boarding schools. I saw that and got really excited(geek out anyone?) It's just like....I need this. My brain needs this information. I can't wait to read them!

Also, Grimm starts tonight. Can't wait.
