Oz!

Ok so I haven't written in a while but I saw Oz: The great and powerful tonight and wanted to post my thoughts. First of all, I had a lot of hope for this movie. A prequel to Wizard of Oz, Disney, colorful, live action, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, James Franco. Seems to be a good combo.
It was a cute movie, personally I haven't read the original books, and I've never been one of those die hard Oz fans, but it was a cute movie. Good for little kids, definitely some laugh out loud moments for the parents. I was a little disappointed in how....blah it was though. James Franco's Oz is a con man and plays the character pretty....not campy but just over exaggerated I guess. I just realized though as the movie went on and Oz came into himself I started to like the character more and maybe it wasn't on purpose but maybe it was. Or maybe James Franxo is just a genius. When I realized that I was like whoa....

I didn't mean for this to be a movie review. But while I'm at it I really do like Michelle Williams. But yeah. It's a cute movie, just not what I expected.

In other news, HOLY CRAP VERONICA MARS MOVIE!! I watched the beg a thon video and was just loving it. Especially since they honestly want to make the movie. I love the love they have the characters and how Ryan Hansen and Jason Dohrong still act like the best friends that dick and Logan are in the show. It's weird but it makes me happy. I've been rewatching VM since last week so it's a little weird how they announced it while I'm rewatching.

Starting to ramble so I'm signing off. Can I just say one more thing? I'm going to PaxEast on Friday and I can't wait for DW Long Island in November. CON AHOY! And I'm trying to get the money together to go to Philly wizard con at the end of may. Money. It sucks.

Good night!

Gallifrey meets NY

So let's begin this story last year when it was announced that Paul McGann, and Daphne Ashbrook were going to be at Gally(Gallifrey One, the USA's Doctor Who Convention in LA, CA. And yes, I have been). Okay. The whole cast of 8th Doctor Movie was going to be at Gally in 2012. Eric Roberts included. Well, Paul McGann is one of my brother's favorite Doctors. But things didn't work out and we missed the 2012 Gally, which is the end of February. Cut to a few weeks ago when I get a text from my brother telling me to go to a website. That website was for I-Con. Where it said that two of the guests were going to be....Paul McGann and Daphne Ashbrook! And I-Con was only in Stonybrook, NY a mere 2 hour drive away, rather than a 5 hour plane ride!

So Saturday, the long wait was over and we drove those two hours, just in time to get to the con to see The 8th Doctor and his movie companion talk about filming the movie. We sat and listened to the very entertaining pair speak about the movie and just general things. It was AWESOME! My brother even asked a question to Mr. McGann himself. The panel was only an hour, as they usually are, and then the rest of our Con adventure began.

We walked around the college campus where the con was set, going to the dealer's area. The same type of things were there as always, Steampunk Gear(oh if only I had the money), a  TON of Anime gear, swords, Chessex has a booth there and there were all sorts of pretty dice(again, if only I had the money/played more D&D), toys, artists, general....stuff. It's actually pretty overwhelming if your not used to it. I'm happy that this was my....4th con? So I knew sort of what to expect, and the fact it wasn't over crowded like NYCC was, made it a lot more easier to deal with. You know, actually being able to walk through the rows of booths without feeling like being in a school of fish.

After looking around and getting Whedonistas: A Celebration of Worlds of Joss Whedon by Women who love him, edited by Lynne M. Thomas who also wrote Chicks Dig Timelords and whom I met at Gally 2010(she's awesome and nice by the way) and Deborah Stanish at a Dr Who booth, we made our way for food and then to the Doctor Who: River Song panel. This panel was fan run and while entertaining, I made the discovery I like panels that are not fan run better. For one thing, when the actors, writers or creators are in the panel, you get more concrete answers to questions other than just other fan speculation. Now while I don't mind hearing others opinions, you can only hear, Moffatt Lies or, we don't know so many times. After that panel was the Big Finish Mega Panel with Paul McGann and Frazier Hines(Jamie, companion to the Second Doctor). We met him at Gally a few years ago and he was nice enough. The panel was hilarious. I got some of it on my phone, I honestly don't remember many details other than it was hilarious and awesome and the reason I go to Cons. Afterward my brother went up to Paul McGann and said, "Paul would you sign this for me?" as he had gotten a hand drawn picture on the Dealer floor of the 8th Dr. and Paul said "Of COURSE I would." Major inflection on the course. Not sure, not ok, not, I'm sorry the autograph signing was an hour ago try again tomorrow, but Of COURSE I would. That's what makes a cool guy that loves the fans. That you know he appreciates being there and doing this FOR THE FANS. Especially on a show like Who .It's weird, because I always saw Paul McGann as a little pretentious and not a likeable guy, but that has changed my mind.

This is why I love going to cons. Getting things that you wouldn't be able to get elsewhere (Dr Who/Torchwood merch. And firefly merch although I didn't get any this time) Meeting the people that play your favorite characters or were in your favorite show at one time (Nana Vistior was also there, of Deep Space Nine fame and more recently on Torchwood: Miracle Day, yet I did not see her. I don't see her as a TW character even if she techniqually is.), hearing about the making of shows and stories of the cast.

Next con of the year is Wizard World Philly Con!!! Woot!!!!

PANDA!

First of all, PANDA PANDA PANDA PANDA PANDA!!!! Ok, I got that out of my system.....Panda.

I'm so excited for Mists of Pandaria. Which apparently my phone now autocorrects. Anyway, Monday Blizzard released all this new info for MoP and this includes RED PANDAS! Ok, yeah as in a previous post we know that we're able to play as Pandas, but red Pandas?! with a TAIL!?? HAPPY! And I think the closer it becomes and the more things I hear about it, the more excited I get. Plus new glyphs for Druids and a bunch of other things that are, some little, some not so little, but exciting non the less. Beta testing has started although I'm still patiently waiting for my email to join up as I opted for the annual promise thing that Blizzard started that got you in on Beta testing, but there are all kinds of live streams going right now so you can see the intro world. I'm trying kinda of not to watch it so it's new and more exciting when I get to Beta, but I really want to see how the Pandas roll.

In other news, I jumped on the Hunger Games train. Not hard core, but I read the first book in a day and a half and I just started the second (I love used book stores). In my opinion it's not Harry Potter obsession/excitement worthy, but it's a hell of a lot better than Twilight...and yes. I have read all of the Twilight books and seen the first movie. So it's not like I'm talking out of my ass when it comes to Twilight and the sparkly vamps(So glad I grew up with Buffy and not Bella btw.). And yes, I did read the Twilight books like crack when I did read them but seriously?Abusive stalker boyfriend. Team Cedric all the way. Anyway the Hunger games is something I always saw on the shelves, and have thought about buying it a few times, but I never did. Maybe it was the teenagers killing each other. I don't know. But I always heard from other people online or at the book store that it was good, that I would like it. So now with the movie coming out (today I think) I thought, eh, what the hell. I'm on vacation. So I read it in a day and a half. Partly because my Uncle also wants to read it and partly because I wanted to see what happened next. So I did like it. and I do want to know what happens next. I love that the story is basically about survival. There is a slight love story, but as I read on a different site, it's pretty secondary. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone so I won't say to much, but it's a good story that we need post twilight. Looking online at Hunger Games stuff I've seen more TEAM KATNISS stuff than Team Gale or Team Peeta(which I haven't decided who I like better as I've only read the first book and Gale is barely in it) which I think is awesome because it shows that a girl can survive and have support from the fans, that not everything is about finding/choosing the guy. Team Katniss in my opinion is awesome because it is okay to like a girl on her own. For her to want to support her family and take care of her town. To not let anyone down, especially herself. Girl power. So, like I said, it's pretty good awesome. Not HP caliber but still decent writing and a good read. (Feel free to spam me with your opinions on this)

Until next time,
Emily

and Oh yeah,

PANDA!

Hey a CW show that's Good!

A few things that are exciting happened within the past few months. And I realize I pretty much suck at writing in this blog. I always come up with good entries, just have to remind myself to write them down.

So recently I started watching Supernatural. Holy hell why did not get into this show earlier? I'm on season 3 now because Netflix is awesome and finally started streaming it. I think part of the reason I didn't watch it at first was Jared Paledaki. I know I spelled that wrong. He was always Dean Forrester to me. Rory's somewhat controlling boyfriend. I didn't like him after the first season. So he was on this new show and while I can normally Seperate actor from character I didn't care to, writing the how off as a stupid another drama illed bad excuse for a teen soap with a little sci fi/fantasy/horror thrown in. Oops. It's not like that at all. I love the lore and Dean ain't to bad either. His bad ass hurt puppy with a heart of gold when it comes to his family, freaking awesome. But it really is get the job, the hunt of the baddie done. The underlying theme of doing anything to protect your family is always there too. A love squabble or triangle or whatever drama usually shown in CW shows is non existent. Although, they did start this show on the WB I believe, when the channel's shows were still good. The dialogue is smart and funny and there are little things, like Dean singing along to an Asia song to annoy his brother or Sam saying "wait, so unicorns don't exist?"(trust me, in context it was hilarious.) you can actually believe these guys are brothers.
Granted as I get farther in the seasons I could be introduced to some of these things that I said the show didn't have, but honestly i can't see it happening and if the writing stays good, I'm not sure i'll care. So I guess we'll see.

Seriously!?!?! :-D

So last year I watched the first few episodes of NBC's The Voice. The concept of judging people only on their talent and not on what they're wearing (or sometimes what they aren't) was amazingly refreshing and I was excited. But then after the blind auditions I forgot what night the show was on and didn't really care if I missed it or not and didn't watch. I don't know who won, I just liked the blind audition banter of the judges and the concept of actual blind auditions.

Then I saw a tweet by former The New Mickey Mouse Club member Tony Lucca saying that he was going to be on the blind auditions! This made me squeeeee! First of all, the fact that two former mousketeers would be reuniting. That made me happy to see what her reaction would be, to see if she would recognize him, etc.  Second of all, I like Tony. Always have. I haven't religiously followed his career post MMC but I've kept tabs (on Matt Morris too) on his music.  And I LOVED the MMC when I was younger. I watched it every day without fail until my parents got rid of the Disney Channel and if it came out on DVD I would totally buy it. And I like it, which also made me excited because I do like his music and those mixed feelings of wanting a singer/band I like to make it vs do I really want everyone to know this gem emerged. I talked to an online friend (and one of the few people I know who still remembers and admits to watching MMC) and we both were super excited and hoped that Christina would turn around but Adam Levine would be a much better fit and that Tony should go with him.

So I waited for Super Bowl Sunday and made it home the Super Bowl Party I was at just in time to see Tony Lucca KILL it on the blind auditions. His kid was adorable and so excited, his wife was beaming with pride. He played and I kept waiting for Christina to recognize his voice, she didn't. All four judges turned around for him and I squeed again. HE MADE IT!!! It seemed that Christina didn't recognize him but at that point all that mattered was that the crowd loved him and that the judges loved him. Tony did go with Adam of Maroon 5 and with his rock sound and Adam's rock-ness, they should make a great fit. Then the audition ended, Tony went back to his family and Christina realized who he was and went to find him. Granted that part was a little awkward and I felt incredibly old to realize that MMC was on about 20 years ago (gah.) and also that some people auditioning weren't old enough to watch or remember TRL when Carson Daly hosted it (double gah). But understandable because he was excited about what just happened and it is Christina Aguliera....who he hasn't seen in forever in person and it's like seeing someone from high school at a party that you knew but were never CLOSE friends with. You can relate with some things that you have in common but in the long run it's kinda like....umm...well...good seeing you.... Although the little tidbit that Britney Spears had a crush on him then had to make his wife feel good (hahaha Britney! I got him! You didn't!....nevermind she was like 12 at the time and he was dating Keri Russell. Yes, Felicity herself)

I'm so freaking happy for him and proud. I'll actually be watching this season because of Tony.

And on a related note, I watched the beginning of the Ides of March the other day and had a oh DUH moment when Ryan Gosseling was singing and I thought damn he has a good voice, then remembered he was on MMC and kinda has to to be on the show. (I was also super excited when I saw him getting more jobs, such as Young Hercules, Breaker High, and Remember the Titans. When he was still dorky.)

And yes, this is a squee post because a squee post is Geeking out.

Here are some clips from MMC:

Do you know how hard it is to find MMC clips without Britney in them?

Warp Speed!

So true. Every time, one of the reasons I like to drive in the snow

Freak out!

Ok so I love Disney movies. Especially the classic cartoons that I grew up with such as the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, the lion king but my all time favorite is Lady and the Tramp. Don't know why except that when I was little my grandparents had a dog named Lady. She wasn't even a cocker spaniel but who am I to argue with two year old me's logic? Anyway the problem that I've found with having Lady and the Tramp as your favorite Disney movie is it's almost impossible to find merch for it. It was easier when I was little and therefore had no money to buy the stuff but now that I can, unless you look really hard you can't find much that isn't a stuffed animal. And even then it's few and far between. Having said that, I walked into the Disney store today and was looking at the stuffed animals and saw a Tramp out of the corner of my eye. Nothing new. But then I really looked and saw they had Tramp, Si, Am, Peg and the bulldog from the pound scene!!!!!!! I think I actually squealed. Then proceeded to show my sister in law who was with me and text my mom, one of my friends and tweet the picture I took because they finally had a stuffed animal that wasn't Lady or Tramp! This didn't even happen when the DVD came out! And trust me, I looked. I asked. I had a friend looking for stuff at Disney World for me. It's not to be found. So yeah, I geeked out big time and I don't even care!

Here's the pic I took
